How do I find out which Shopify theme a store uses?
Paste its address into the detector. To do it by hand: open the store, view the page source (Ctrl+U) and search for “Shopify.theme”. You’ll find the name the merchant set and, under “schema_name”, the theme’s original name.
Why doesn’t the theme name match any known theme?
Merchants rename their copies (“Copy of Dawn”, “Summer version”). The detector also reads the theme’s original name, which renaming doesn’t change. If it matches no Theme Store theme, the theme was custom-built.
Does the detector work on every Shopify store?
No. A headless or Hydrogen store has no Shopify theme: we tell you it runs on Shopify and how its storefront is built. Some sites also block automated visits, and then we can’t read anything.
If I buy the same theme, will I get the same store?
You’ll get the same base, not the same result. Well-known stores add their own sections, apps and often code. The Theme Store demo shows the theme as shipped, which is the best point of comparison.
How do I get a theme nobody else has?
Three paths: heavily customize a Theme Store theme, pay an agency for a custom build, or generate a theme for your brand with a tool like Ova. Generating there is free, publishing to your store requires a subscription.
