If you typed "ai store builder", you've seen ten ads promising a store in five minutes. Some of them are telling the truth. What they don't say is what you get, what you pay afterwards, and what's still on you. That's this article.
Which AI store builder, in 30 seconds
Don't start with the tool's name. Start with what you already have.
| You have | Pick | What you pay to publish |
|---|---|---|
| Just an idea, and you want to see what it could look like | Shopify AI Store Builder (designs only) or Scale Ova (full store) | The Shopify plan, plus the Scale Ova subscription |
| A product link (AliExpress, Amazon, a supplier page) | Scale Ova, DropMagic or Atlas | The Shopify plan, plus $79/month (DropMagic), $39/month (Atlas) or the Scale Ova subscription |
| A niche and no product yet | BuildYourStore, Storebuild, CreateMyStore or StorePilot | The Shopify plan only |
| A Shopify store you want to rework | Scale Ova (Recraft) | The Scale Ova subscription |
Two things to keep in mind:
- "Free" means free to build. Every one of these stores runs on Shopify, and Shopify is paid from day four. Details below.
- A generated store has no customers. Nobody on this list sends you traffic. Not the free ones, not the $79 one.
What an AI store builder actually generates
Behind the same label, four different things.
- From a few words: you describe the business, the tool designs the store. Shopify's builder stops at designs. Scale Ova builds the pages, copy, products and visuals around your brief, then keeps editing with you.
- From a product link: you paste a URL, the tool builds the store around that product. DropMagic and Atlas. Scale Ova does it too.
- From a niche: you pick "fitness" or "pets", you get a theme and 10 to 30 pre-picked products. BuildYourStore, Storebuild, CreateMyStore, StorePilot. Fast, and the same base as everyone else who picked that niche.
- Inside Shopify: Shopify Magic and Sidekick write a description or an email. Useful once the store exists, but not builders.
Here's what "a complete store" looks like when it's generated from a brief. Matchata is a demo built by Scale Ova from a description: ceremonial matcha sold as a coffee substitute. Home page, benefits, reviews block, product page with add to cart. You can open it.

Keep that page in mind while reading the table below. A "store" from a niche builder is a theme with products dropped in. A store from a brief is built around the product's promise. Neither is finished: the supplier, the payment test, the legal pages and the traffic are still yours.
8 AI store builders compared
Prices read on each tool's official page on September 11, 2026. They move. What each tool starts from doesn't.
| Tool | Starts from | What you get | To publish, you pay | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scale Ova | An idea, a product link or an existing store | Full store: theme, pages, products, copy, visuals, then edits in plain language | The Shopify plan plus a Scale Ova subscription at €49/month | Generation is free, publishing isn't |
| Shopify AI Store Builder | A few words | Store designs, as many as you want | The Shopify plan | Designs only: no products, no copy, no pages |
| DropMagic | A product link | Multi-page dropshipping store, drag-and-drop editor | The Shopify plan plus Pro at $79/month | Free plan: 1 store, no publishing |
| Atlas | A product already in your Shopify catalog | Home page and product page, bundles, upsells | The Shopify plan plus $39/month after 7 days | 5 published pages, $1,000 bundle revenue and 250 cart orders included, then overages |
| CreateMyStore | A niche | Theme, products, AI copy, preloaded reviews, 40+ Vitals apps | The Shopify plan; Vitals is paid after 7 days | Reviews on a store that has never sold; the app bundle becomes a monthly bill |
| StorePilot (PagePilot) | A niche | Home, About page, 30 "winning" products on the PagePilot theme | The Shopify plan | Free "for a limited time", new Shopify store only |
| BuildYourStore | A niche | Theme, 10 products, .store domain, apps | The Shopify plan | Preset niches, one theme style, no public price for anything else |
| Storebuild.ai | A niche | Theme and 10 Zendrop products | The Shopify plan; its product page app is $29.90/month beyond 1 page | Sourcing and fulfillment tied to Zendrop |
Scale Ova
Describe the project, paste a product link, or connect a store you already have. You get a complete store in a few minutes, and you keep working on it by talking to the AI: change a section, rewrite a product page, regenerate a visual. Generation is free, the subscription starts when you publish to Shopify. Pick it if you're building a brand you plan to keep and you want the AI to stay in the loop after the first draft. Skip it if you just want free designs to look at.
Shopify AI Store Builder
Type a few words, get store designs, as many as you like, for free. Read the promise carefully: designs. No products, no copy, no pages. It's the cleanest way past the blank page without installing anything. Then Shopify's trial starts, and the actual work with it.
DropMagic
Paste a product link, get a multi-page dropshipping store with persona-based copy and a drag-and-drop editor. The free plan gives you one store to play with and no publishing. Publishing means Pro at $79/month. It adds up if you launch a new test store every week. For one brand, that's an expensive editor. The DropMagic comparison walks through the math.
Atlas
Atlas lives inside Shopify. Its Full Store Builder takes a product you've already imported and generates a home page and a product page, then bundles and upsells. $39/month after a 7-day trial, with caps: 5 published pages, $1,000 of bundle revenue, 250 cart orders, then usage charges. Good if products are chosen and you want pages and upsells in one place. Too far down the road if you haven't defined the brand yet. Details in the Atlas comparison.
CreateMyStore
Pick a niche, get a real Shopify store you own, with a theme, products, AI copy, preloaded customer reviews and 40+ Vitals apps installed. Building is free. Two things to know: Vitals is a paid app after its 7-day trial, and reviews preloaded on a store that has never sold anything are a trust problem, not a feature.
StorePilot
PagePilot's store builder. Pick a niche, get a home page, an About page and 30 "winning" products on their theme. Free for now, on a new Shopify store created through them. Same logic as the other niche builders: quick, generic, yours to rework.
BuildYourStore
The oldest of the free niche builders: theme, 10 products, a .store domain, a few apps, no payment to them. Niches are preset and there's one theme style, so treat the result as a draft. It's a fine way to see a Shopify store from the inside before you commit. My BuildYourStore review goes further.
Storebuild.ai
Free store with 10 products from the Zendrop catalog, so sourcing and fulfillment stay with Zendrop. Their Shopify app adds AI product pages: one free, then $29.90/month for 3 pages per cycle. Fine if Zendrop's catalog is what you wanted anyway. The Storebuild comparison explains that lock-in.
Not on this list: aistorebuilder.com. If you searched the brand, know that it builds on Wix, not Shopify, and bundles a "$3,000 course" with a done-for-you store. Different product, different platform.
What "free" really costs
Every store above runs on Shopify. Here's the Shopify bill for year one, whichever builder you pick.
Basic plan, monthly billing (Shopify's pricing page, September 11, 2026, EU prices; US prices differ slightly):
- 3 days free
- €1/month for 3 months
- then €36/month (€27/month if you pay the year upfront)
That's about €327 for the first year, before any paid app and before ads. Then add the builder:
- Shopify's builder, BuildYourStore, Storebuild, CreateMyStore, StorePilot: nothing to the builder. Watch the apps they install.
- Atlas: $39/month, so around $468 a year if you stay under the caps.
- DropMagic: $79/month to publish, $948 a year.
- Scale Ova: free to generate, €49/month to publish, €588 a year.
Ads aren't in any of these numbers. A store without traffic sells nothing, at €0 or at $948.
How to choose
Four cases cover almost everyone.
You only have an idea. Play with Shopify's builder for free to find a look. If you want the pages, copy and products built around your idea, and to keep changing them by chat, Scale Ova.
You have the product link. DropMagic if you'll test many products and $79/month makes sense. Atlas if the product is already in Shopify and you want bundles. Scale Ova if it's the one brand you'll keep.
You have a niche and nothing else. BuildYourStore, Storebuild, CreateMyStore or StorePilot give you a free starting point. Expect to replace the products, the copy and the visuals before anyone sees it.
You already have a store. Shopify Magic and Sidekick for one-off tasks. Scale Ova Recraft to rework whole sections by instruction.
Whatever you pick, check three things before paying: how far the generation goes (design, pages, products, legal pages?), how you fix the first draft (chat with the AI, or a classic editor?), and what publishing costs once "free" runs out. For the basics, I have a complete guide on AI for Shopify and a guide on the AI Shopify theme.
What none of them do
A builder assembles pages. It doesn't check the product, the supplier, the margin or the demand.
The mistake that keeps coming back: running ads right after generation because the store looks finished. Before that, order the product, test a payment end to end, read every claim, do the margin with returns included, open the site on your phone. Generated legal pages are templates, not advice for your business.
AI saves you the weeks spent on theme and pages. Whether anyone wants what you sell is still your job.
